While he has since moved on to South Plains College in Texas as an assistant coach, Brette Tanner managed to keep tabs on the sophomores he left behind at Fort Scott C.C. in Kansas.
After losing power forward Robert Zuk for the season due to injury, as well as small forward Jerron McCiskill and finesse power forward O'Neal Mims due to disciplinary issues, Tanner guided the Greyhounds to a 12-19 overall record in his final year as head coach.

JUCO Junction caught up with Coach Tanner on Sunday at the EKB High School and JUCO Showcase, and he filled us in on the destinations or potential destinations of some of the Greyhound sophs.
Zuk, the 6-8 power forward from Poland, has signed with Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he will have three years of eligibility.
Zuk visited North Texas (March 26-28) and Wisconsin Green-Bay (Feb.) this year. Back in the fall, he took official visits to Utah State and Hawaii.
"He likes Coach Kowalczyk and is looking forward to the opportunity there," Tanner said. "He wasn't worried about level, he just wanted to go somewhere where he could be an important part of the team."
As a freshman in 2002-2003, Zuk averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game.
A native of Florida, the 6-7 McCiskill was dismissed after his volatile temper exploded at an early season tournament in Garden City, Kan. In two games, he racked up 28.5 points per contest and nailed 10 of 17 (58 percent) three-pointers.
Tanner said that Shaw University and Tuskegee are actively recruiting McCiskill this spring.
As for Mims, the 6-8 Austin, Tex., native is trying to finish his degree requirements at Redlands C.C. in Oklahoma. He's spent time at four different junior colleges over the past three years.
Mims played in 14 games at Fort Scott before getting the boot. He averaged 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, shooting 54 percent from the field, 39 percent beyond the arc and 56 percent from the foul line.
Three other sophomores are hoping to move on in the fall.
Stocky, offensive-minded 5-11 lead guard Ricky Phillips will probably need to go the D-II route, Tanner said. He needs a biology and math class this summer to complete his degree requirements.
Without Mims and McCiskill in the lineup, Phillips often carried Fort Scott. A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Phillips averaged 18.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for the Greyhounds in 2003-2004.
Combo guard Marcus Madison, a 6-1 native of Pittsburg, Kan., recently visited Midwestern State University (Apr. 9-11), Tanner said.
Madison was one of Fort Scott's leading scorers this season. He averaged 13.9 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, shooting 41 percent from the field, 34 percent beyond the arc and 74 percent from the foul line.
Kelly O'Dell, a 6-5 small forward from Olathe, Kan., averaged 4.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Tanner said he's getting NAIA looks this spring.
As we continue to hear where the Fort Scott players are headed, we will let you know via an update.
