Scouting special: Bain one of nations best

One of the most promising post men in junior college basketball resides in Norfolk, Neb., at Northeast Nebraska Community College. That young man, Gjio Bain is a 7-foot, 235-pound center originally hails from the Bahamas. He plays in the same frontcourt with Iowa comittment, Cyrus Tate. Having the opportunity to practice every day against Tate will do nothing but help both players.
Bain is very long armed and he is a major presence defensively. Even when he does not block a shot, offensive players are aware of him. He causes opponents to miss shots as often as he blocks them. In addition, he can really run like a deer. He is a very good athlete, especially for a 7-footer.

As with many big men there are things that Bain must improve on. He does need to gain more weight and get stronger. There is a tendency for him to get pushed around on the blocks. But he can make up for it many times with his long reach to change or block those shots.
While at Northeast, Bain will be under the tutelage of Head Coach Dan Anderson. Anderson, a veteran juco coach, is know for working with his big men. The teaching of Anderson coupled with the competition in practice against Tate should do nothing but help Bain as he continues his career.
Southwest Hoops Report rated Bain a upper mid/mid-major prospect. Because of his potential, Bain could go to a high major school that can afford to redshirt him or he could go to a mid-major school and make an immediate impact. He would be an especially big pickup on the defensive end.
Bain and Tate hope to lead Northeast Nebraska to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. JucoJunction will be there to follow the progress of the Hawks and Coach Dan Anderson's ball club.
JucoJunction will continue to follow junior college recruiting across the land. To talk about this story with other juco hoops fans, check out the JucoJunction Board or our premium forum.
