Last week, we detailed the commitment of Salt Lake City Community College forward Ahmet Tidiane to Hawaii, and while he may be off the board, there are a couple of other SLCC prospects that are worth keeping an eye on.
The other headliner on the Bruin roster is Rekalin Sims, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward.

According to SLCC head coach Norm Parrish, Sims has the talent to contribute at just about any program in the country, but he’s taking recruiting at a pretty slow pace.
“There’s not a lot new with Rekalin. He’s going to wait so he didn’t make any early visits,” said Parrish. “But teams have come in and watched and they’re just going to keep checking up on him.”
Kansas State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma are the ones that have shown the most interest, Parrish said. Washington, UCLA have also been in touch.
“Right now he’s still just listening. He’s got academic work and so far he’s doing well. But I would think he’ll narrow it down come February,” the coach said.
Sims and his SLCC teammates have been practicing for close to three weeks, and their season opener is set for November 5
“He was pretty good last year. He’s just a more mature kid overall,” Parrish said when asked what Sims has shown in workouts. “Last year, he thought every day would be easy. Now he knows that the hard part is still ahead. He’s just a better leader, but he was only a freshman last year.
“He understands more what we want and he knows where he’s going to get his points. But he was pretty good last year so it’s hard to say that he’s improved his shooting or something. He could score it last year and he’s still making baskets.”
Two other players, small forward Mark Pratt and point guard Bryan Ellis are also worth watching.
“(Pratt) is getting a lot of attention from the Big Sky schools and Stoney Brook University, that type of level,” Parrish said. “I see Bryan in that same kind of level. He hasn’t gotten a ton of attention because he’s a transfer here and a lot of people didn’t know he was here. “
