Pegues leads the way for Cape Fear
Cape Fear CC in Wilmington, NC started off with the second season last week at the Region Tourney in Aiken, SC and came away with a 2nd place finish. CFCC had finished 7th in league play this year but, now is heading off to Cumberland, Maryland and play in the District Tourney with the right to advance to Hutchinson, KS in a few weeks.

CFCC is currently 15-19 on season and are 6-6 under interim head coach Ryan Mantlo. Mantlo took over the program in early Feb. from Jamie Stowe who resigned from the program.
Monquel Pegues: (SO) 6-foot-10 (250) from Wilson, NC. Pegues had signed with High Point out of high school but enrolled at Cape Fear CC after not making grades.
"Monquel has dropped about 15 lbs this season and he's still developing," said Mantlo.
Pegues practically owns all the school records at Cape Fear CC in scoring, rebounds, blocked shots, and field goals made. Pegues has scored 852 career points in 62 games. Monquel is averaging 18.3 ppg and 6.8 rebounds this season for the Sea Devils while shooting 56% (190-339) from the floor.
Monquel must take care of some work in the classroom to graduate on time to move on to the D1 level.
UTEP-offered, George Mason-offered, South Carolina State-offered and he visited in the
fall, Bradley, Rutgers and Houston have shown interest in the center.
Anthony Lipscomb: (FR) 6-foot-6 (210) from Hope Mills, NC. The combo forward is leading the team in rebounding this season with 7.8 rebounds per game and
12.2 ppg.
"Anthony has just played three years of organized basketball," said Mantlo. "The lefty has a lot of putbacks on the glass and can step out and shoot the three ball."
Lipsscomb prepped at Laurinburg Institute last season.
Brandon Baskin: (FR) 6-foot-0 (180) from Binghamton, NY. Baskin is a left-handed point guard who prepped at Prince Ave Prep in Pickens, SC last season.
"The jet quick guard has a knack to score the ball with great floor vision," said Mantlo.
Baskin is averaging 9.4 ppg and 3.6 assists this season for the Sea Devils.
Cape Fear CC will play Allegany CC on Friday at 7 PM in Cumberland, MD in the District Tourney. Aiken Tech (SC) plays Westchester CC (NY) in the opening game at 5 PM. Aiken Tech has beaten Cape Fear CC three times this season.
